Congratulations to all Westmoreland County Scholar Athlete Award recipients. I want to give a personal note to a few that we know. First, our own Rikki Brown of Southmoreland HS who has the highest batting average and  triples on her team. She works very hard in all aspects of her life- sports, academics and her extracurricular activities. She will attend Slippery Rock. Rikki, we are so happy and proud of you!

Delaney Cortazzo of Jeannette HS- this is no surprise. Your outstanding GPA and your hard work in sports and as a volunteer coach in several sports, well, it goes without saying, that you deserve all of the best life has to offer. You are an amazing young lady who we are proud to know.

Kelsie Marconi- again, another great young lady and student athlete. We have known her since she was young and coached her for many years both in rec and travel (she is with the Pittsburgh Predators). She has the most wonderful personality and work ethic and is so mature beyond her years. Congratulations to you Kelsie on this award and your academic/athletic scholarship to St. Francis University.

To those we know and do not know-great job to all. Good luck to all in your future academic and athletic endeavors.

Sandy & Andy,

Thanks for being such wonderful people. You are always the first to congratulate, acknowledge and help out when the time arises.  You both have been completely wonderful to my family through out the years and especially in our time of need.

Chris was so proud when he found out Delaney was being honored.  Breaks my heart he wasn't there but I know in my heart he was smiling down upon her.

Sending congrats to all the winners as well as all the student athletes....Best of luck this summer

Dear Dee,

Thank you so much always for your kind words.  You and Chris, and the girls are so loved and respected by so many! You have raised such beautiful young ladies and it shows in all that they do and how they live. Without a doubt, he is certainly proud that all three of you are and will continue to carry on the family traditions, work ethic, extreme great sense of community and kindness you have instilled and unselfishly give to so many. You and the girls are  beautiful people and forever in our prayers.

I don't often see on this site these days how it was a few years ago, where the softball community wished each other and acknowledged holidays, and not sure why that is.  So let me be the first to say to you Dee, and all of the wonderful moms out there, that I wish you a very Blessed and wonderful Mother's Day. I know this day is almost unbearable for a few of us, but thank God we have our beautiful children to see us through.

I still always think about our rain -out fiasco at the Pennsbury. We'll see each other soon. Take care, Dee.
